Shuttle Length:109 miles one way (4 hours)      River Length: 58 miles    Class V (IV) at low water

Permit Season: June-July 31st

This is a remote river, but well worth it for kayakers and floaters with smaller self bailing boats.  The shuttle road is often blocked by snow until mid-June. High water normally lasts through late May and most of June. Wet suits a must. 

The South Fork is rarely run since it has difficult Class IV and V rapids that can only be run in a narrow range of flows for a few weeks each year. The plus is that it's private and you will not see a lot of people. The permits are easy to get and free you can contact the Krassel Ranger District for permit information at 208-634-0616.

You MUST have a real spare tire!  NO DOUGHNUT spare.   Your vehicle MUST be reliable. Full tank of gas.
